[Bcna-announce] BCNA meeting Tuesday, Sept. 8th.

Dear Neighbors, There will be a BCNA meeting this Tuesday, Sept. 8th. Look
for us in Room 106, down the hall from the library, at 7pm.
I would like to discuss ways which the Association can become better at
communication.
Also, I would like to discuss ways we can coordinate with other community
groups to increase awareness of community activities.

Below is the latest info regarding the Downtown Belmont area. It is a part
of an e-mail from Jim Tolbert.

"Yesterday we had a meeting with staff to discuss issues related to
Belmont.  This is part of the response to the concerns expressed during the
rezoning process from this summer and as requested by council.  At the
meeting we identified three things that are or will be happening very soon.
Public works has increased the street sweeping in downtown Belmont from
twice per year to twice per week.  This should make a great difference in
the cleanliness of those streets.

*The police are going to take on  a proactive monitoring program of all
establishments for noise violations for several days.  Rather than wait
until they get complaints they will take the meters out several times per
night and check.*

*Chris engel from economic development is going to approach the businesses
to see if there is interest in a business association that can help foster
greater communication and hopefully lead to collaborative actions on the
part of the business community to create good will and address problems.*

* Traffic counts will be done this month and zoning research is underway.
We are looking at possible changes to the noise ordinance to apply to this
neighborhood commercial area.  Later this month we have a meeting with
designers to look at possible urban design improvements.*

* The goal is to go back to the neighborhood with possible actions by mid
October.  This is a timeline they support and that will yield the best
thought out results."*
